Gosfield Social Club

Gosfield Social Club is located in The Street directly opposite the junction with Church Road. The club and its facilities are available for Gosfield residents to use on all evenings during the week other than Sunday evenings.

History

The building was originally constructed by the Courtauld family as a Coffee and Reading room for workers on their estate and was later owned by the Lowe family of Gosfield Hall. In 1941 a Deed of Conveyance was signed by Arthur Lowe, George Lowe and Maurice Rowson which handed over the ownership of the building to a group of Trustees. The Trustees were in turn given the authorisation to appoint a committee to run the club. The Deed of Conveyance states that the building shall be used as a village club house or institute for the inhabitants of the village for the purposes of meetings, education, recreation and other parochial activities. Since the building was given to the village in 1941 a number of extensions and improvements have been carried out to the premises.
